Since our company was founded over 120 years ago, we have been committed to helping people live healthier and longer lives. Today, around 65,000 employees pursue this purpose with exceptional dedication in over 70 countries. Together, we have set ourselves the goal of sustainably improving healthcare. Just as we place people and their well-being at the center of our work, the societies in which we operate, and our employees are equally important to us.
They are our most important asset, and the key to our long-term success as a company. As an employer, we strive to be attractive to everyone, regardless of origin, age, education, sexual orientation, religion, or disability. A particular focus of our Diversity and Inclusive Culture strategy is increasing the number of women in senior management positions.
Leave no one behind
In addition, it is vital that employees are involved in the company's decision-making, and that we promote a culture of dialog. To this end, in recent years we have bolstered communication between managers and employees with our People & Leadership Practices, while inviting all Healthineers to contribute their opinion and tell us what they need in order to do their best work using the Healthineers Forum, our platform for regular employee feedback. Our broad range of training and development programs offers every employee the opportunity to create a personalized professional and personal development plan according to their specific abilities and goals. As a company, we are determined to leave no one behind when it comes to technological change, and above all digitalization.
As a result of our activities in numerous countries around the world, we also bear a responsibility for their societies. Our behavior, as well as that of our local suppliers and partners, determines how we are perceived as a company. We seek to lead by example. Our business dealings and relationships are informed by a fundamental respect for human rights – an integral part of the company’s Business Conduct Guidelines, from which we derive our code of conduct and ground rules for collaboration. As a leading MedTech company, Siemens Healthineers has a particular duty not just to improve people's lives with innovations, but also to set a special example in how we treat each other.
Invest in our people
To pursue our goal of sustainably improving healthcare, we need a committed and motivated team. We currently employ around 65,000 people worldwide. In the 2020 fiscal year, we filled 7,200 positions, 28% of them with internal talents. More than 550 apprentices worldwide currently contribute to the company’s success. In recent years, we have increased our employee numbers by an average of four percent each year.
Drive personal growth
Our work and leadership culture is based on cooperation on an equal footing. Mutual expectations are regularly discussed and monitored between managers and employees. There is also plenty of room for personal development. Moreover, the Healthineers Forum gives employees an additional opportunity to provide direct feedback and engage in dialog with the company. A further focus is the ongoing expansion of our learning culture. In the past fiscal year, over two million learning hours were completed. This equates to almost 40 hours of training and development per employee. In this way, we are contributing to UN SDG 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth”.

Our goal is to make Siemens Healthineers a company in which everyone enjoys equal opportunities to develop their talents and to apply them for the benefit of the company.
Diversity in teams and management positions
In this context, we are placing an increasing focus on diverse teams with individual skills and strengths. Particularly in management, we want to do even more to promote balance. To this end, we are deliberately increasing the proportion of women in our development programs and supporting potential management candidates in the regions. This helps us to ensure that women enjoy equal opportunities for management positions at all levels of decision-making, and that our management teams include a higher proportion of colleagues from the regions. This is a valuable contribution to UN SDG 5 “Gender Equality” and UN SDG 10 “Reduced Inequalities”.
Respect human rights
Siemens Healthineers creates value for society in every country in which we are present. With our products and solutions, we help patients to live healthier and better lives, both directly and indirectly. In this sense, human rights are part of our responsibility, and therefore a core element of our internal Business Conduct Guidelines (BCGs). These Guidelines prohibit forced and child labor, as well as protect labor rights and guarantee a safe and secure working environment for all of our employees.
Commitment and implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights
Our commitment to and implementation of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights is led from the top, incorporated across our business operations, and overseen by the Managing Board of Siemens Healthineers. Human rights standards are defined in our Code of Conduct for Suppliers and Third-Party Intermediaries, and monitored in the course of due diligence processes relating to large business projects and to our supply chain. During the 2020 fiscal year, 84 compliance concerns were reported, none of which involved human rights issues. Our Business Conduct Guidelines, which are binding for all managers and employees worldwide, clearly state that “We respect the personal dignity, privacy and rights of everyone.” In this way, we are contributing to UN SDG 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth”.
