Our commitment to sustainability

Creating new possibilities in a world of limited resources

Our Sustainability Report for fiscal year 2023

The world’s resources are limited; our collective challenges are urgent. At Siemens Healthineers, we want to advance a world where breakthroughs in healthcare create new possibilities with a minimal impact on our planet. As a leading MedTech company we are uniquely positioned to solve healthcare challenges through our technologies and innovative solutions.

Our sustainability strategy is built on three pillars. We commit to improving healthcare access for all, limiting our environmental impact as we pioneer breakthroughs, and engaging our diverse Healthineers to achieve this impact on a global scale.

Our commitments

Improving healthcare access for all

More than three billion people around the world still lack access to adequate medical care. At the same time, even in developed countries, where you live could determine how well you live.

We are committed to providing innovative solutions to make healthcare affordable and accessible for underserved communities.

Preserving our planet’s resources

We experience the effects of climate change and dwindling natural resources at an increasing frequency. We aim to minimize the environmental impact throughout the lifecycle of our solutions.

We are committed to driving decarbonization across our value chain, promoting circularity and developing sustainably designed products and services that also help our customers meet their targets.

Engaging our diverse Healthineers

We believe that today’s global challenges need diverse minds. Our breakthroughs are a collective team effort, resulting from consistent impact from every Healthineer.

We are committed to championing a diverse, inclusive and healthy work environment and aim to achieve human impact on a global scale.

Our impact today

We embrace the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to foster a better future for our planet and its inhabitants. Already we can see the impact of our sustainability strategy, but the journey is far from over. We are committed to making a positive difference in the world. Discover why and how below.

Every milestone in life matters

With Healthcare Access, we are growing patient impact with our industry-leading technologies and innovative solutions and aiming to democratize healthcare for populations everywhere. Healthcare for everyone, everywhere, also requires us to help ease the burden on healthcare professionals and support workforce skilling. Our education and training services promote learning and capacity building and enable flexible working.

Every action to preserve resources counts

We are committed to preserving resources, and actively drive decarbonization in our own operations and across the value chain. In addition, we promote the shift towards circularity and eco-friendly products. We work actively with our suppliers and partners, and support our customers in their environmental sustainability efforts, to employ human and environmental resources mindfully without compromising patient operations.

Every Healthineer matters

Our power as a company is in our workforce – our 71,000 diverse and engaged Healthineers are united to solve healthcare challenges, today and in the future. In bringing together a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, we enrich our collective knowledge, become more innovative, and we grow more economically resilient.

Our targets for tomorrow

Amplifying our impact

No organization can solve healthcare and ecological challenges alone. Our global and regional partnerships are a key enabler for our sustainability strategy.

Addressing challenges in healthcare access often requires partners for funding and provision of care. For instance, we partnered with City Cancer Challenge to support city-led cancer solutions to improve and sustain access to equitable, quality cancer care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). We are also supporting UNICEF1, the United Nations Children’s Fund to improve access to diagnostics to strengthen health systems in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.

Unlocking the full potential of our employees to amplify our impact

Healthineers have a strong passion for a shared purpose to life, and the desire to personally engage on climate action as well as on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) around the world already promote sustainability, and we want to build up on these efforts.

Our employee led GREEN (Grass Roots Eco- Friendly Employee Network) teams initiate activities and promote sustainability – both at the workplace and in everyday life. Spread across the globe, they are actively involved in a range of sustainability projects aimed at reducing waste and conserving energy. Meanwhile, our employee led LGBTQIA+ ERG and Allyship initiative continues to foster a workplace where everyone can feel safe, comfortable, and valued for who they are and what they bring to the table.

Report

In our third Sustainability Report, we present our achievements in fiscal year (FY) 2023 and describe how we are living up to our purpose. It highlights our key sustainability challenges and opportunities and the many ways in which we are responding to them. Throughout the fiscal year, we focused on elevating our sustainability ambitions to the next-level, taking into account the valuable input from our stakeholders since the beginning of our sustainability journey.
