Siemens Healthineers builds modern logistics hall in Kemnath, Germany

Published on April 8, 2020

Siemens Healthineers is responding to the structurally growing demand for its imaging products. At its Kemnath location, the medical technology company has started construction of a new logistics hall. This is planned as an extension to the existing production facility and has a gross floor space of roughly 3,500 sq. m.

“As a market and technology leader in many fields, Siemens Healthineers is particularly benefiting from the structural growth in the healthcare market. The current coronavirus crisis demonstrates very clearly the importance of the contribution we are making to society with our products and solutions. Our products help save lives and improve health,” says Christoph Zindel, member of the Managing Board at Siemens Healthineers. “With this investment, we’re both highlighting our commitment to the location and offering a sign of stability in times that are difficult for everyone.”

The plans are for an automated small-part warehouse in combination with a high bay warehouse for storing and order picking high-volume parts, such as circuit boards and screws. The company in Kemnath is currently resorting to external storage resources that are more and more approaching their capacity limits. The new hall will be built according to state-of-the-art technical standards and will substantially improve efficiency at the location, for example through the use of automated tow trains. The facilities will be ready for occupancy in the second half of 2021. The project volume totals over 12 million euros.

The Kemnath factory in the Upper Palatinate region was founded in 1962 and has since developed from a simple contract manufacturer into the Competence Center for Mechatronics and covers broad sections of the Siemens Healthineers product portfolio. The components manufactured in Kemnath include, for example, C-arms for angiography systems and tables
for magnetic resonance tomographs, as well as components for analysis systems used in laboratory diagnostics. Siemens Healthineers currently employs more than 1,200 people at this location.
